I'd like to replace the ATA66 (!?) drive in my new G4 (broke down and got one, a 1Ghz-DP QS '02) with an ATA133 drive, and before I do so I'd like to determine if there's any earth-shaking advantage to be had by putting an ATA133 PCI card in with which to hook up the new drive. I've gotten conflicting opinions and was wondering what your thoughts were on the matter.

TIA!

?Your new G4 will come with a ATA100 drive on the ATA100 bus. You will see almost no advantage to a PCi ATA133 host card. Only difference will be in small peak transfers, sustained large file transfers will show no improvement at all.

?About the only way to gain speed is to install an ATA133 Hardware RAID card, they will be almost double the speed over a standard single drive.

PS, congrats on the new puter!
