View Full Version : Apple DVD drive from G4 in my 9500-how to get Apple DVD Player to launch?

So I put this Hitachi DVDROM from a Macintosh G4 Digital Audio into one of my 9500s using a Sonnet Tempo ATA66 card. It works for CDs, playing music and installing data, even booting successfully.

However, I used TomeViewer to install DVD Player 2.2 and upon launch a dialog insists that Apple DVD player is not compatible with this model of Macintosh (Error 301).

Has someone gotten Apple DVD player to work on a legacy mac, or am I gonna have to put this drive on my nForce motherboard project?

Everything seems like overkill until you get used to it. - Ironmac

Take a look searching thru www.xlr8yourmac.com (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com) as I'm sure that if you can, someone there did it and there will be a description, report, or in the drive update database. Getting DVD to work does take either Radeon PCI w/ DVD playback, and/or hacking a driver.

Even OS X didn't have great DVD support until after 10.1.2.
