I have been thinking of putting my 2 HD's in my QS 733 on a card - I have been reading and there seems to be a few choices. An xx133 something - Acard, Sonnett ATA133, there are others? How much improvement might I expect? ATTO tests give me from 38-41 MB/sec reads/writes on both drives.

My drives -
Master - 40 gig 7200 rpm Seagate
Slave - 60 gig 7200 rpm IBMGXP

Thanks
Randy

Randy,

You're not going to get enough improvement with even a ATA133 host card to warrant upgrading to a host card. THe ATA66 internal bus is more than capable enough to handle the capablilties of ATA100 drives. About the only benifit is a increase in burst through-put, not something that will matter to a audio nut like you. In real world use you would never notice the difference.

Thats sorta what I thought or remembered from our other talks. My music is all on the 7500 with the 10k Cheetah.

What about video - I have 3-4 StarTreks that I downloaded to the 7500 months ago - since moved to the QS - and now that I have the space would like to get more.

The QS's setup is fast enough for Video also right? Better be.

There was a note on StorageReview yesterday about whether ATA/133 controllers OR an ATA/133 drive deliver any real performance benefit. Seems not. Maybe why Apple hasn't yet offered ATA/100 IDE controller either.
