View Full Version : Sonnet Tempo ATA/100?

Has anybody installed Sonnet's new ATA/100 Tempo card? Just wandering if there is a significant speed difference over the ATA/66. I'm also curious if there are any technical issues or bugs which have come up?

Check out xlr8yourmac.com. I've seen sone topics on their forums related to this question.

Seems to perform about the same but better compatibility with older PCI Macs. There is also a review of ATA/100 (and ATA/133) controller IDE cards on www.storagereview.com (http://www.storagereview.com)

I am thinking of getting one to help 7300 and B&W G3 along with Barracuda IV.
Doesn't look like MacGurus has lasted stock posted, whether they have them in stock or not.

Still, 37MB/s for SR isn't terrific and a G4 w/ ATA/66 (?) IDE controller gets that much. Seems like ATA is "stuck" getting beyond the 40MB/s limit.

Based on hard won -- and repeated -- experience, I can report that a Sonnet Tempo Ultra ATA100 PCI Host Adapter Card does NOT at present work as advertised in a G4 867 QuickSilver: NO hard drive connected to a Sonnet Tempo100 will be able to boot a G4 867 QuickSilver.

On the other hand, full bootability IS supported in a G4 867 QuickSilver by a Sonnet Tempo66!

I can't comment on the respective sppeds of these cards . . . because of my limited experience with the Tempo100 and because the card itself just doesn't work right.

Maybe others are finding that ATA100 (or even ATA133) cards by Acard or Miglia actually work in the latest Mac computers?
