Does anyone know if you can actually use the new pioneer DVD-A03(superdrive) DVD-R on a blue and white 450mhz G3? I was thinking on getting either the internal(atapi) model or the FireWire external by EZ quest or QPS, or would it be better to just upgrade to a new G4 with the unit included? Nay info would be appreciated.

I think it might work -

Apple uses that brand of drive - IIRC and they are probably the only maker of the Superdrive, right now. You would probably need 9.1 at least - esp for FW. If that is all you are looking for then I would hold off on a new syste, but if you want to crunch heavy video (MPEG2) then going with a new system is probably better and less fuss.

You could probably watch DVD movies with the hacked Apple DVD player and an ATI card (128, RADEON, or newer).
