I have an older G3 Yosemite (drive bays side-by-side, not stacked) and am trying to install a new IBM IDE drive. The original hard drive has an 80 pin female socket. The original cable from the board to the drive has male connectors and is split, with two free connectors presumably to accomodate new drives. My new drive, however, has a male 40 pin slot, requiring (presumably) a 40-pin female connector. Is there a dual cable that has both a male 40 pin and female 80 pin connector, or can I buy an adaptor? Thank you, O gurus.

I'm sorry, but I've never heard of the cabling arrangement that you describe; 80 pin, split?

All ATA cables have 40 pins. There are some newer ones for UltraDMA 100 that have 80 wires, but the extra wires are for shielding and they still have 40 pins.
