View Full Version : how to install hard drive in Yosemite?

I need advice on installing a new hard drive - just bought a 75 GB IBM deskstar and have no idea where to begin. Do I need new cables, harddrive sleds? Do I have to do anything with the hard drive's jumpers? If i just slap the drive in there do I need to set anything to make it optimal for video editing?
Any help is much appreciated. This is my first time to open the back of my computer!

Hi.. Just pop it open, at the bottom of your case are several bays that are predrilled to place your hard drive...

Screw it in, connect up the power and IDE drive cables and you're all set..be careful with the Master/Slave jumpers...

if you are installing this drive as a second IDE drive, you set it as a slave and stack it right on top of the original drive using four screws. You should have a spare IDE connector right there for it, and a spare power connector free inside the case. If not, go to Radio Shack and buy a power splitter. They're like $3 or so.
