View Full Version : Plextor CD-RW and Apple driver

Apropos of nothing, I discovered last week that Apple's CD/DVD ROM drivers from OS 9.0.04 or 9.1 will work with the Plextor 12/10/24A.

I normally use CD/DVD SpeedTools, so imagine my surprise when a clean-installed OS began auto-playing a music disc that had been left in my Plex.

Just a tidbit that might be useful to know at some point....

That was reported first here just a couple of days ago. Very interesting! Very odd!

Is it an IDE version?

B, howz your luck with the CD/DVD Speedtools and your Plextor? I've had very little luck with my Plextor IDE 16x10x40 and CDST, but the apple driver works great. I'm certainly keeping my eye out for firmware upgrades for my drive. Have you ugraded your firmware for your drive? Did it go smoothly?

I have found that I cannot get my new Plextor drive to boot from the g4 install cd. It just keeps kicking out the drive tray instead of booting.
any info on this would be appreciated

i updated the firmware on my 8x/20x scsi to 1.08. you have to download from the europe site, as the american site doesnt support macs. it went smoothly, but i havent noticed any difference in performance. however, replacing my 24x ata with a 6x/32x dvd pulled from a g4 has pretty much eliminated under runs.
