good morning...

anybody have an idea as to how a stock G4 10GB hard drive (7200 rpm maxtor i believe) compares in performance to those offered on the gurus ide pages?

don't think the 10 Gb were 7200 rpm drives.

The Maxtor and IBM drives in the new G4s should be around 30Mb sec. The 10Gb probably around 15Mb a sec.

Has a FAQ and a link to an ATTO screenshot of how fast the stock ATA/66 bus and a stock G4/450 WD 20GB IDE drive is. Good for starters. You are looking at 22MB/sec sustained and 40+ for peak.

I believe that theck drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax. But not the Plus version. The Plus is a 1-4 platter 7200RPM line....Maxtor's high-end IDE. The DiamondMax is a 3-4 platter 5400RPM unit. Now, if we are right and the drive is a 5400RPM model, then we are in business.
