We are newbies and just got a new dual 500 G4 and needed to add a second video card to support a second monitor. We have a Rage 128 Pro installed in the AGP slot so I assume I need a PCI card for the second one. I saw there are no more Rage cards available through ATI, only Radeon cards and for the Mac they are only AGP. Any suggestions as to waht PCI card would work would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lance....

Did you look here?
http://www.macgurus.com/shoppingcart/showrampage.cgi?mgvideoadapters.html

The Formac ProFormance3 16MB PCI card comes highley recommended by the Gurus.

On the above linked page, MacGurus make mention of Formac ProFormance 4 possibly being anounced at MacWorld this year. When that info is made public, you can bet the Gurus will pass it on. If you can wait, MacWorld starts on Tuesday the 9th.

My vote........for the money, it sounds like the ProFormance3 16Mb is a sweet card.

Lance,

with any luck, Formac will introduce the ProFormance 4 with is a dual monitor AGP board. You will be able to run two monitors off this single board and not use up a precious PCI slot.

right.

PCI Radeon should also be announced, and finally begin shipping. We've been waiting for it for weeks.

my advice would be to wait for three or four weeks after the show, say around the end of this month.

So guys, is an AGP card useable in a PCI slot? I think I know the answer to this, but know you know for sure.

careful with the drivers--I've been told that they can be iffy with Rage 128VR, if you are running one of those.

how did you like the show?

The installer on CD that comes with the Radeon PCI installs everything that is needed and removes what is not or older versions as well as QT 4.1 and Apple OpenGL 1.2.1. I do not have a Rage 128VR. k

In the mist of all the excitement with Kaye's PCI Radeon, I haven't heard anything about nVidia's proposed cards/performance,

Are they commited to maintaining the 3dFX drivers? What is their new card supposed to perform at in the new machine? Better than Radeon?

Just wondering what people heard for rumors.

Thanks!!
