View Full Version : need pci card to run ADC monitor (FREE BEER)

10-16-2002, 10:03 AM
I need a relatively cheap video card to run an ADC monitor (the apple crt stuido display).
There are some AGP cards that do this (eg: ati 9000) but I have yet to find a PCI card.
This is to run on an aging mac -- a 7500 w/ sonent g3 upgrade.

ps-- did the mention 'free beer' get anyone to read this who wouldn't have?

From Gregory in another post...

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Radeon PCI (2001) OEM from Image Solutions (http://store.yahoo.com/image-solutions/apatiradpcid.html) $169 or there is a Radeon 2001 PCI in the Sale Forum which is about the best choice in a PCI video card. The other choice seems to be the Radeon 7000 (~$119 or less). Both have good 2D and 32MB DDR but the 2001 or OEM version are better. I would not look to Apple for QE on PCI Radeon, but I use it in my B&W, it is better than w/o. That or replace your AGP with one that supports both ($$$) and has 64MB DDR or more. ATI 9000 maybe?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Or cheaper yet? I would have to suggest an older unsupported card via eBay or a used card someone is selling - did you check the Guru's "For Sale" Forum? The VooDoo cards worked great in those machines - but no support. I think drivers can be found.

Try a search in "Video Upgrades" for "PCI" or "PCI graphics" or something simalar.

Thanks, but I don't think those cards will run an ADC monitor. ADC is the new Apple Display Connector. It has power, video, all that junk in one connection. Old cards wouldn't have it, man...

Check Barefeats info out... http://www.barefeats.com/sawgraf.html

hey.....where's the free beer? http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry, never seen an inexpensive adapter.

thanks for the link, but it simply restates my problem. There seems to be NO hardware to support the damned 17" CRT Apple studio Display.

There will be NO free beer for anybody until this is resolved!
I'm not kidding!!!

I mis-read your post - sorry. In my searches for a graphics card to run dual monitors tomorrow - I'll keep an eye out for a PCI that runs ADC - Seems like someone should do it? Barefeats is usually very up to date - so thats not promising. http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif But I like beer. http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I fear the ADC connection is the Beta tape drive of video cards.
DVI seems to be the winner.
And those DVI to ADC converters do not work with the 17 CRT apple display.
Piece of junk. It makes a lousy palette monitor because it has poor radition shielding and affects the primary monitor. It is best in a single monitor environment.

I looked and it appears both the Voodoo 5 and Rage Pro have DVI connectors but, as you say, none of the DVI to ADC converters appear to work with your display. Apple has some info but I can't decipher it in your case:

Nah, but thanks for your hope.

It turns out there is NO WAY to run the 17 ADC CRT Studio Display without a g4 with the apple ADC AGP card. No PCI solution, or conversion box, or anything, will work.

Look for my ADC monitor on eBay soon...

By the way, as a palatte monitor, you want to avoid this (and really any) CRT. The poor radiation shielding affects the main monitor, and visa versa. Palatte monitors should be LCD, as they give off low radiation and wont affect the main monitor.

sold it on ebay for 350 bucks.

im buying an lcd pallette monitor with the money.

end of story.
