View Full Version : Video out for 7500

I'm still using 9.2.2 on my crusty old 7500 with an upgrade G4 card. It has video in, audio in (L+R), audio out (L+R) ports, but NO video out port. I'd like to export some old video clips to video tapes (VHS) but my 7500 doesn't have the video out port. I don't play games on this box.

A few years ago, there were good video cards compatible with my 7500.

Question 1: Can you recommend some reliable video cards with video out port for my 7500?
Question 2: What price range to expect for used or new ones if still available.
Question 3: Do these cards come with monitor port so I can have dual monitors?

Thank you in advance.

Cheapest option might be t pick up an 8500 motherboard and swap them. The 8500 has dual-stream video out (you can have you desktop on the monitor and port video output through either an RCA or SVHS). That is the only difference in the 7500 and 8500 motherboards. I have an 8500 mobo in a 7600 case that was sold to me as a stock 7500. But that simple swap (well, you must swap all you RAM, PCI, etc) will give you video output to VHS no problem. They sometimes go on eBay for under $30. I'd be hard to find a video card with video out and monitor out and 9.2 compatibility for close to that. At least I think so. See what some others have to say.

I have emails from a small used computer company in NY state that is expecting a couple dozen 8500's within a week or two. They sell a bunch of Macs of the vintage era (7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600) and I recently picked up a working 8500 from them for $45. 2GB HD, 64 MB RAM, 12x Apple CD.....pretty much the works (as much as you can expect). If you want to go that route, lemme know. I will be glad to forward the address on to you.

Thanks, Dogstarman!
I'm on the westcoast and I know a couple used computer places. I'm going to check with them to see if I can pick one up. I'll contact ya if I don't get lucky. Though, the $45 is very tempting but shipping all the way west might kill me. Thanks again.
