Hi,
I was just with a friend with possible solutions for his 7300. He wants to put a Sonnet 450 (G3) in it and a better video card. It isn't his main computer so he doesn't really want to spring for the $100 plus options. I was recommending the IX Micro at about $50 from OWC but, surprise surprise, it has vanished. It was there for so long at $44. But now I can't find it on OWC's site at all. Does anyone know if that card can still be found?

And are there any other options for PCI Mac cards that I haven't thought of:

ATI 7000 (new) = $120
ATI Nexus (approximately) = $95 (eBay)
ATI Orion (approximately) = $80 (eBay)

Voodoo 3 (flashible but NOT for OS X) $25 - $40 (eBay)
Voodoo 4 (flashible but NOT for OS X) 40 - $55 (eBay)

He also wanted to know if an nVidea card he has is flashible?

Thanks.

Cheap PCI video cards: http://xlr8.com/cgi-bin/cart-cc/cart.pl?db=stuff.dat&search=cat:Hot+Deals

NVIDIA reflash for Mac
You'll need to be much more specific. Without knowing the exact NVIDIA GPU and vendor, there's no way anyone can answer your reflash question directly. :-) That being said, reflashing NVIDIA cards is pretty much a YMMV endeavor. People report success all the time, but they sometimes fail with the same card that worked for them six months earlier.

DO a Google search for <macintosh nvidia reflash> and read the results pages on xlr8yourmac.com. There's also a page, usually in the first 5 hits, that lists many peoples' success with specific models of card.

A VooDoo 3000-4000-5000 would work good too. You can still get the drivers.

I have a VooDoo 3/3000 in a 7500 G3 400 and it works great.

If you are still looking for a cheap $39.95 IXMicro PCI card check this out http://www.nexcomp.com/monitor.html They still have them in OEM packaging with a warranty. The customer service is great here, so feel free to ask them any questions.

P.S. OWC still post the drivers for the card http://eshop.macsales.com/Tech/index.cfm?load=ixmicro.html

Another resource for info on the card or drivers http://www.desktopartist.com/news.htm

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I got to the site too late. They have now sold out of the cards. Good info and so close...

As to my friends nvidea card it's AGP so, "never mind".

And thanks.

I'll sell you my IxMicro card for 40.00, it is a pull from my 9600. If you want it send me an email @ webmaster@minux.zzn.com . Please note I will be gone for 8 days on a cruise to the bahammas... (yipeee)... I also have a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI Video Card brand new in box that I would seel for $75.00. Let me know either way.

Another option is to take a peak at ebay http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?Mf cISAPICommand=GetResult&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&ht=1&query=ixmicro&srchdesc=y (http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&ht=1&query=ixmicro&srchdesc=y) if you want to try your hand at auctions. Just a thought...

P.S. poweron.com is a good suggestion since their cards are new.
