We'll all be pleased to note....:

Magician has verified plans to carry the Radeon 7000, as well as the regular radeon boards (AGP and PCI) here at MacGurus, as soon as the 7000 fills the distribution channels.

It would seem that the new card is, technically, unsupported in Macs running pre-OS9.x Only really an issue for those of us still running OS 8.6.

I don't know if that support starts at 9.0, 9.0.4, 9.1 etc.... Kaye or one of the other guys who went to MacWorld may know. Once the cards are in hand, the specifics should be more forthcoming.........

But, we figured you guys would want to know.......

Damn, I can totally see running three monitors!

Regards,

c8

That's cool - I'm in the market for a Radeon PCI board for my G4/500 upgraded Yikes box.

Question for the group - I'm using OS X on this box - how much more of a performance boost would I expect in replacing the stock Rage 128 card with the Radeon under OS X?. - i.e. is it worth the swap?. I have two Radeons running in two different machines - in one case, it's in parallel with an nVidia board in a G4/533 and in the other, it's coexisting with a TwinTurbo in a G3/500 upgraded PTP....

Still an issue with the R7000 and Beige G3's running X...boots into the GSOD only. ATi does not have a fix to date.

Yes, humble pie here http://support.ati.com/infobase/3986.html and OS compatibility here http://www.ati.com/na/pages/products/mac/radeon7000_me/index.html#specs

Louie tells me the original Radeon PCI he purchased from me runs just fine on his Beige G3 in OS9/OSX. ATI should make more of those but no doubt won't. k

Does this mean that ATI has finally built a driver that works?

Seems I recall that Magician said the Gurus would not sell ATI boards until ATI could write a decent driver.......

Also has ATI fixed the conflict between the Radeon Driver and the nVidia driver?

In my G4/533 with the Radeon PCI and nVidia boards in it, OS X works well...

Hmmm - so there are still Radeon's in the channel? (the original ones?)

What's all this talk about the PCI Radeon not being available? I ordered one a couple of weeks ago from CDW. It's working fine (albeit a bit noisy - damn ATI and their cheap fans) in my 8500.

Any word on when the Gurus are going to sell Radeon 7000 cards? I'm ready to buy one, and would prefer to buy from MacGurus. Yet it's nearly 2 months since I saw one at MacWorld, and i'm not able to hold my breath much longer...
