I'm not sure if these are the same as people are talking about here (3Dfx) ??? Are they suitable for an 8500 running OS 9.1 ??

I am not sure exactly what you are asking but I can tell you my VooDoo 3/3000 works great in my 7500 with a G3 400MHz, 288 RAM, OS 9.1.

and yes my VooDoo is made by 3dfx as are all VooDoo's I think?

I think that 3dfx used to allow others to manufacture cards bassed on the various chip sets they produced (ie the Voodoo3/3000) in a manner that is similar to what I believe nVidia is currently doing with Hercules (Guilmont?). I think I read somewhere that Hercules cards are based on and use nVidia gForce2 chipsets. Hmmm...

Unfortunately, 3Dfx is no longer in business. Their technology was purchased by nVidia and is now unsupported. The card can still be flashed for use in a Mac if it hasn't already with the final beta drivers that were released for it. Even if it's already been flashed, you still will need the support drivers in the package. Download the software from http://www.sollitaire.com/applevoodoo/Voodoo3Drivers_beta13_c3.sit .

The card will work fine in OS 9.x. It will most likely refuse to work at all in OS X.

My 3DFX Voodoo 5 / 5500 works very smoothly in my 8500, OS 9.1
