I have a Voodoo 3 card in my S900, and a Nokia 447XiPlus monitor. I tried the monitor on a PC, it can do 100Hz at 1024*768. But on the mac it can do only 75. I tried with G4 macs too, the result was 75Hz max. How to make more Hz in 1024*768?
(Mac OS 8.6)

Would that not depend on the card itself? - the monitor may be capable of different resolutions and sync rates but what gets displayed depends on the card's capabilities.

What are the specs on your Voodoo3 and how do they compare with that on your PC?

A RADEON board is capable of a sync rate of 120 Hz at 1024 x 768

This is why in the past it has been possible to damage a monitor by selecting a video rate on the board that is incompatabile with the monitor.

Your limitations are not dictated by the monitor your using or the capabilities of the video card, but by how the video driver in the card's ROM interpret the connector on the monitor. There is a great Mac utility called SwitchRes (http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=4340&db=mac) that will allow you to exploit all the resolutions your monitor and video card are capable of producing. It does this by allowing you to test each resolution your card can produce for a few seconds and respond if it worked or not. Once done, you have a pop-up menu to select all resolution that worked.

Hot dam, I've always wondered how to figure that out. Thanks for the tip LV.

Now it's OK. The Voodoo card has a preference file in the Preferences folder. This is a simple text file, there can be enabled or disabled resolution/refresh rate. Now it works: 640*480@160Hz, 800*600@120Hz, 1024*768@100Hz. The card can do more, but the monitor's limits are here. :-)
I will try the SwitchRes, because i can't believe, that the Ati Rage128 in G4 cannot do more than 75Hz :-)
