I'm sure we all know that the 8500 is A/V capable, as stock equipment. The A/V port module connects to the logic board via a cable. What I would like to know, is if the whole A/V hardware can be integrated into the 9500. Basically transfer the A/V capability of the 8500 into the 9500. I always wondered why Apple never made an A/V capable 9500 straight from the factory. That was one of my dilemmas in choosing between the 8500 (with only 3 PCI slots & A/V) or the behemoth 9500 (and its 6 PCI slots). I know my A/V question sounds way far-fetched.... but I would like to know if it is anyway possible???

Nope. No way to do it. Same deal with the 8600's AV and the 9600. The 6-slot models were marketed more to the hardcore professionals than the 3-slot A/V. The rationale was that there is an added PCI slot capacity for such things as Pro-level capture cards. The AV abilities of the 85/8600 machines were OK back then. But the video solutions for PCI slots were still far better. Hope this helps, without adding too much to the "Damn" factor.

right.

while there is a physical area on the rear of the 9600 enclosure for that board (you remove a plastic cover), there is no supporting circuitry on the logic board. No place to plug it in.
