Ill be doing some minor Photoshop work pretty soon, so im gunna need a decent card. ill soon be in posession of a 7300, with crappy 180 604e processor, 80 megs of ram, 2 gig processor, so on and so forth. id rather not just upgrade vram, i would prefer a longer lasting solution. any ideas? aside from the casual Quake II matches, ill only be using it more or less for the photoshop work, so id rather just go with a good 2D card.
any suggestions?
Thanks

You won't play much Quake with a 180 604. The old TwinTurbo 8MB does well in 2D. The Ultimate Rez is OK. The best used card is the Orion.

A cheap ixMicro Ultimate Rez card will be plenty sufficient for 2D and Quake 2 will run great in it's own software renderer if you are unable to use OpenGL.

actually, in a thread i had read before, a guy asked for opinions on a ixMicro Ultimate Rez card, but someone said they were no longer being supported.
Dunno. ill look into different cards
Thanks

I'm planning to get an Xclaim 128 VR for mine. Rage 128 series seems to be very good, and I need a new digitizer for my video work(mostly tinkering and for fun). But that's me. Finding the right one though can be a hassle, since you always hear about the 3D video cards now it seems, but very little on 2D.

No ixMicro card is supported. Neither is MacTell, 3dfx, Microconversions, Number 9 and many others that have gone out of business. Your choices are very limited, since their are very few companies building Mac video cards. ATI announced no OS X support for anything older the the 128 series. The even cuts out the Rage II and Rage Pro chipsets on the logic boards of beige G3's.

get an Orion on eBay, if you can get anyone to give one up.

they were a steal at retail at around $100....no telling what they would fetch now.
