I have a Radius ThunderPower 30/1920 card (in it's day it sold for over a grand and I got a great deal at $750 or so on it). Since Radius became Digital Origin, I'm guessing that there will be no drivers for OSX. Do you all think this matters? Will the card still work in a new G4? (It's PCI and will easily do HDTV 1080i and 1600x1200.) I realize that the nice hardware zoom, etc. won't work, but should I just consider buying a new video card instead?

What would you recommend if games was not a priority, but rather 2D?

Also, will the 12" card obstruct the installation of any drives?

Thanks,
Jon

I saw k's post and am wondering if I should try to sell the AGP card that will come with the machine, the Radius Card, and get the Formac dual head AGP card. The Formac site doesn't say whether it's 2x or 4x AGP either. . . . .

If its PCI it should work, but the drivers may not work. I would bet that by a V3, ATI RAGE128 or better would work just as well for 2D. The formac Dual head looks pretty good. I've also seen a $300 dual head AGP .... somewhere on this forum. Gurus may still be selling a Dual head AGP model. It would save a slot. You might want to see how the old PCI card and the stock AGP (radeon) work. You could always get the dual held model later.

Oh, actually, there's a huge difference between the ThunderColor cards and the ThunderPower Cards. There was in price too at the time.

I didn't know that. So the Thunder Color PCI was really just a remake of the Thunder IV NuBus board? I remember that Radius rushed a PCI card out that was a Thunder IV in PCI clothing. When the NuBus Thunder IV GX*1600 came out it was $3995. I have several, purchased for $89-$500, depending on how recently purchased.

I've been wondering about the 2x or 4x AGP issue myself. The Radeon AGP is a 2X. The ProFormance 4 AGP I can't tell, but it will have dual monitor support. k
