View Full Version : this is SICK!

who wants to buy me one (http://www.panoramtech.com/quote_request/pv290dsk_step02_mac.htm)?

Holy frijoles...I have found a new reason to work. One thing I can't quite fathom is why the cheaper PV230 DSK has such a minimal screen-to-screen border while the more expensive (3X as much) PV290 DSK has a thick, grey border between screens. Wild stuff, though. 2 computer inputs per screen? Composite/S-VHS inputs for each panel? 3840x1024 resolution? You could watch 2 widescreen (16:9) movies side by side!!! I don't know about buying one...but my New Year's Resolution was to win the Lotto. Then I might.

Movies ? Forget Movies... that must be the best platform for Unreal Turnament ! See a whole 180 panorama !

In all seriousness...how many games out there would support such a monstrosity? I could see the point of it as a workstation...but as a Playsta--wait a minute...that name's taken!!!!

I just see a way to have the same screen real-estate as three displays, as I do now, but with ONE PCI CARD. That might actually make a Sawtooth usable...

01-03-2001, 12:40 AM
Sorry, Magician...it takes one input for each panel...that's why the system you can buy has a dual-channel AGP video card AND one PCI vid card. That is the first thing I looked up, cuz I was thinkning the same thing as you. But it'd be pretty neat to have this thing connected to that Magma chassis with 3 Radeons driving it.

01-03-2001, 02:58 PM
damn....you're right. Looks like no matter how I slice and dice it, I'm looking at a rack mount with a chassis.

wouldn't that unit be the shit for my Montana chalet, though?

a man can always dream...

Now for a real-world application of this thing. 3 identical computers (or 6, since you can have 2 inputs per channel and switch them). Different video card/RAM/processor configs. Side-by-side real-time comparisons. No more screenshot squinting. Run 3 copies of whatever at the same time and see what they look like with "minimal monitor segregation". Heck...I would love to see somsone trying to play UT or Q3 with 3 machines all staring at him. OK, I gotta stop.

This even made the local TV and radio news on one of the Chicago stations. Must have someone working the PR lines.

It was also in the NY Times Ciruits section Thursday. Someone somewhere is plugging away.

The last flight-sim games written for Mac that I remember that would do three monitors were A-10 by Parsoft and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat (I think). A modern sim to handle three monitors would be great on that device.

F-A/18 Hornet supports three monitors. This rig would seem to do nicely if the graphics cards were the same.

Damn Mag....put a couple digital camera's on servo blocks with joystick control, blocked up with a 5Omm "popgun" retrofited with electric primer ammo, rig a motion detector to a warning indicator, wire it all to your FireWire port, and you're ready to rock!!! "Instant" 1000yd perimeter!!!

you know what, Dave? That might even be actually feasible!

Toughest mods would be retrofit of breech electrical and fine tuning the motion detection for "big game".

Now if you can just get your hands on one of those semi-auto 50's that that guy in AZ was making right before the man anal probed him... http://www.macgurus.com/ubb/eek.gif

Just buy the Barret 82 in semi-auto. That thing is huge though. There was a company in UT making bolt action .50s that were not to big. Eagle arms or something like that.

Gun shows in UT are _scary_ Take my word for it. I saw guns there I thought I would never see, along weith acessories I thought were illegal. Totally illegal.

nah....no need to mount a .50 cal....I mean, if The Man is bringing armored vehicles, a Barrett ain't going to do squat. I'd need to make some shaped charges, and mount them to detonate sideways against the tracks. Once immobilized, I'd have to figure out a way to squirt gasoline over the whole enchilada, and turn the entire vehicle into an oven. It's the only way I can see to take out a Bradley or whatever they're using these days to serve warrants.

that's probably what I need to mount on the units: a simple garden hose hooked up to a pump that will spray gasoline or kerosine at a variable distance. Soak people, or vehicles, or whatever, and all you have to do is unleash a single flaming arrow in their general direction.

yeah. That would work.

You crack me up..........

...but I think you're on the right track..............

okay....an amalgam of both our ideas.............

gas and enough flaked soap to make it jell, with high pressure delivery, one of your digital cams and joystick to direct that stream.........

.....50mm tracer round from vantage point to get the fun going...

Hmmmm.....I must be getting paranoid......I deleted the rest of this.....

"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not really plotting against you....."

we better change the subject, or others will think we're militiamen or something. The last thing I need is the BATF tossing my house looking for manuals, or impounding my Macs looking for downloaded bomb-making materials.

let's talk about chicks instead....or Macs.

Mag......right on, and noted!
