Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a new video card for my PowerTowerPro 225 that was upgraded to an XLR8 G4 card (thanks Gurus!) and was wondering what my best options are. I read that Voodoo is going out of biz so I don't think that's an option, unless someone can convince me otherwise. The ProFormance looks great - what's up with the glasses? I mostly work in 2D apps - Photoshop, Illustrator. Quark, etc. with some light gaming. What's my best bet? Right now I just have the original Twin Turbo 128. What's my best option for a new card and what should I do if I want to set up dual monitors - keep the TT 128 card and use that for the second monitor or get a card that supports 2 monitors?

Thanks for any help,

Adam

use two cards--as far as I am aware, there are no dual-display PCI cards on the market at this time with usable drivers.

I would wait until after MacWorld....we're waiting for ATI to finally get off their butts and ship Radeon PCI. Your decision, at that point, will be between ATI Radeon and Formac.

I don't think there are any other mainstream PCI video cards even available at this time. Just a couple of very targeted AGP cards.

Adam,

If Macworld SF does not supply a new solution, I can say the ProFormance3+ 32MB is a great card. I have one in a PTP/250 with xlr8 G3-500. I don't do games so I can't comment on that but 2D and 3D are very fast.

The goggles, they work in some games and for viewing stuff that can't be mentioned here. They also go well with a leather flying cap. http://macgurus.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif k

Thanks Kaye,

Most reviews I have read have put the ProFormance3+ 32MB card above others in 2D - which is what I mostly work in so yes, unless ATI has a bigger, better solution I'll go with the PF.

Although rumors point that the Radeon PCI won't be shipping at MWSF it should be out in the next couple of weeks and I would definately find it worth to wait.

Kaye won't be using the goofy googles anymore when the House Goddess finds out what he's looking at!
