Anyone know how 'swappable' the G4 processors are?

I have a G4 450, & I'd like to put in the zif from a newer G4, maybe a quicksilver or something. I am just not sure what original apple processors will work in my 450.

Then I was planning to tale the 450 zif & throw it into my Yikes 400.

Will this work? Can I make a 800 mhz G4 out of my 450 this way?

Thanks!

?Totally different connector. The Yikes has a ZIF which is particular to the Beige, B&W and Yikes G4. When you move up to a Sawtooth you get a much higher density connector. In fact the CPU board won't even cross well between the different G4 models AGP, Gigabit, Digital Audio and QUicksilver. With some modifications sometime you can cross a couple of them but in general it is not advised at all. You'd really have to know what you are doing.

Hmmm. Then the ol' G4 450 is only really upgradable by a 3rd party zif upgrade then huh?

If thats the case, I'll have to avoid the more processor 'agressive' games.

Thanks

Do you have 2 G4's? if so are both your G4's the PCI version as in the "Yikes"? If you do start thinking about a processor upgrade look at PowerLogix (http://www.powerlogix.com/products/compatibility/apple/index.html) or Sonnet (http://www.sonnettech.com/product/cpu_upgrades.html) or Daystar.
