PERFORMANCE

  Screenshot at right is taken with AJA System Test running on a 2009 MacPro4,1 with a Myricom single port 10GB Ethernet card in slot 2 connected to a 2013 Macpro6,1 with a Sonnet Twin 10GE attached to a Thunderbolt port. Also connected to the Thunderbolt MacPro is an 8 drive SATA RAID. The ethernet connection is routed through the Netgear ProSAFE switch over very inexpensive Cat6e copper wire - not high $$ Fiber. As you can see,achieved performance of over 600 writes and near 800 reads. Simply amazing.

  Personal notes: Beastly fast. In the past we had to use expensive Fiber Channel RAIDs to share storage at these kinds of speeds. With 10GE, even Red 4K footage can be edited on multiple computers at full speed off one reasonably fast RAID storage. The 10GE network, matched with either an Areca Thunderbolt RAID like the 8050T2, or massive fast PCIe Areca attached 12G iStoragePro RAID, either in a PCIe slot or inside a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion box. Big and bad, the best of all worlds. Of particular note is that configuring 10GE components can take some expertise. While simpler configurations may not require extensive configuring, in some cases it may save time and money to get hooked up with a consultants to do the set up......~Rick
