Standard Trays are simple and low key. Personally I like these trays without bells and whistles. Each tray has built in drive power and drive activity lights, so you know which drives are working and which aren't. Drive tray fully surrounds drive when out of the Burly.
Trayless Bays - Use no drive trays at all. Slip your bare drive in and close the door. Simple system that works. Be aware, you are handling a bare drive when out of the bay. Antistatic drive boxes are recommended when drives are stored.
LCD Display Trays for those who need some direct monitoring of drive status. The display is pictured at right. It displays drive activity, drive temperature and fan operation for each drive. Also has audible overtemp and fan failure alarms.

 Hotswap trays protect your drives when out of the Burly by completely surrounding them in an aluminum box. You can label them, carry them with you, or stack them on a shelf.

Note: LCD trays will not work in standard bays. The reverse does work, standard trays work perfectly in LCD bays. So if you have an LCD equipped enclosure you can purchase additional LCD or standard trays. If you have a standard tray equipped enclosure you can only use standard trays.

  Installed Hard Drives from Seagate or Hitachi. You can get your Burly with or without hard drive installed. These are top of the line retail drives with a 3 year warranty. We will have our technicians install and test any hard drive, either by selecting an enclosure with a hard drive here or by selecting any SATA hard drive from MacGurus SATA Hard Drive page.

  Seagate models are SATAIII 1.5 and 2TB 5900 RPM LP drives and 7200.12 (500 GB and 1 TB). These drives are the best performance and reliability for their size.

  Hitachi 2TB and 3TB is a SATAIII Deskstar.

A word about OEM versus Retail Drives - MacGurus' strongly recommends that our customers avoid purchasing drives marketed as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) hard drives. We suggest that you only purchase and use Retail drives. Retail drives carry the retail manufacturer's warranty, 3 to 5 years, with all the contractual support that the warranty provides. OEM drives were originally manufactured under contract for one of the many major manufacturers of computers and or servers. OEM drives often do not carry a warranty from the drive manufacturer nor from the OEM buyer. Instead they are sold to resellers 'as is' and any warranty is provided by the reseller. Worse yet, these drives may have custom firmware as specified by the OEM. We frequently see customers with OEM market drives have compatibility problems in desktop usage. There is just no way to know what you are getting when you purchase OEM drives and warranty coverage is hit or miss depending on the source. The total randomness in behavior makes it very difficult to diagnose and maintain your storage array. Data transfer problems, mounting failures and total drive failures are common when OEM drives are used. MacGurus ONLY sells Retail drives.
