  Sonnet’s revolutionary new line of Port Multiplication capable host cards will dominate the storage market. This PCIe SATA host card is compatible in MacPro and Dual Core G5s with an open 4X or 8X PCIe slot and PCIe capable PCs running XP. Able to mount up to 4 drives directly or up to 20 drives when attached to enclosures with Port Multipliers like the Burly Port Multiplier Enclosures available here in 4, 5 and 8 Bay versions as well as Rack Mount.

   Capable of mounting the drives each independently or in any combination of software RAID and JBOD. You can even create huge and incredibly fast arrays across multiple port multiplier systems for never before seen speeds and certainly never before seen capacities on a direct connected host card. Very versatile with great performance combined with the cost benefit of being able to attach less expensive smaller capacity drives in greater numbers for a huge per GB savings. The throughput from drives attached to these cards is exceptional giving full 300 MB/sec access to each of the four SATAII specification eSATA ports.

This host card has eSATA Ports:

   eSATA, a new external connection method for the SATA specification, is used on this card. More robust and better grounded, these connectors are the choice for external connected storage. Be aware though, confusion is also going to be common as the eSATA connectors are VERY similar in appearance to the current SATA Type A connectors more commonly being used. Use of an eSATA to eSATA external cable is currently needed to connect to the MacGurus Burly Enclosure. Be sure to select eSATA cables when ordering a companion Burly to go with your Tempo E4P host card.

This is it. Video storage for the Mac!

  Video users and HD Video users in particular will find this to be the real answer to their storage needs. Able to grow capacities using cost efficient smaller capacity drives with the ability to attach more and more drives as space is needed. Added to that, getting performance well in excess of the speed requirements for HD is icing on the cake. In real use an 8 drive RAID0 array or even better a 10 drive array can handle any of the typical needs of the High Def video workstation. These arrays can be built either in a pair of enclosures like 2 x Four Bay Port Multiplier Burlys or 2 x Five Bay Burlys or by using the massive 8 Bay unit with 2 Port Multipliers. We recommend the multiple enclosures over the larger 8 Bay mainly because they are easier to move around and work on in the event of a drive failure.

  Great System for photo storage! You can add multiple drives, bays, arrays and enclosures, up to almost any combination of capacity and great speed. All can be accomplished giving you the versatility to create a storage system AND a high speed backup, all off of one host card in small discreet packages. The Port Multiplier capabilities give you the control you need to configure a working high speed system matched exactly to your studio’s needs. You have never seen photo storage fly until you have your saves happening at over 200 MB/sec on a simple 4 drive RAID0.

  Audio storage par excellence! Stop running slow and slower firewire devices, each and every one of which cuts into bandwidth and increases latency which results in stuttering and garbled output. Installing independent drives on a Port Multiplier system gives instant no bridge access to every drive. No need for a RAID, individual drives will give your libraries faster access and uninterupted throughput. Need more space? Add a few more drives. Expandability this great is unprecedented and will open your eyes to greater performance.

  Compatibility is the key here. Able to run in Macs and PCs running OS10.2 or newer and Windows XP. You need an open PCI or PCI-X slot. Hotswap capability is of course built in so no rebooting just to fire up your external storage. Hotplug is also included for drives in RAID arrays. Compatible with OSX Disk Utility RAID software, SoftRAID and Windows RAID Manager. This card is not bootable in OSX at this time.
