  Lycom’s Port Multiplier capable Express34 host card is the basis to the perfect MacBookPro or Laptop's storage system. This card mounts up to 10 drives when attached to enclosures with Port Multipliers like the Burly Port Multiplier Enclosures available here in 4, 5 and 8 Bay versions. Or it can attach one or two drives directly. The Lycom Exress34 card fully supports software RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD and works with any SATA hardrive. Can be connected to any portable computer that has an available Express34 slot.

   Performance is the best we have ever seen on a portable computer. Drives mounted individually, not in RAID, perform as fast as they are mechanically capable of. We are seeing great 60 to high 70 MB/sec transfer rates on a MacBookPro using currently available SATAII Hitachi and Seagate 3.5 inch drives. Building striped RAIDs can give in excess of160 MB/sec.

This host card has eSATA Ports:

   eSATA, a new external connection method for the SATA specification, is used on this card. More robust and better grounded, these connectors are the choice for external connected storage. Be aware though, confusion is also going to be common as the eSATA connectors are VERY similar in appearance to the current SATA Type A connectors more commonly being used. Use of an eSATA to eSATA external cable is currently needed to connect to the MacGurus Burly Enclosure. Be sure to select eSATA cables when ordering a companion Burly to go with your Lycom host card.
